Why This Ticket Matters
On August 1, 1978, the Atlanta Braves defeated the Cincinnati Reds 16–4 at Atlanta–Fulton County Stadium.
Rose went hitless in four at-bats before Braves reliever Gene Garber struck him out to end the game and the streak. Rose had hit safely in 44 consecutive games, matching Willie Keeler’s long-standing National League record.
The pursuit ended 12 games short of Joe DiMaggio’s major-league record of 56. This full ticket marks the conclusion of one of baseball’s greatest sustained hitting performances.
