Why This Ticket Matters

On October 16, 1973, the New York Mets faced the Oakland Athletics at Shea Stadium in Game 3 of the World Series. Oakland won 3 to 2 in 11 innings.

The game became the final appearance of Willie Mays’ 22-season career. Mays had recorded the final hit of his career two nights earlier in Game 2 and appeared for the last time in Game 3. The Mets retired his No. 24 during an on-field ceremony earlier that season.

Mays combined power, speed, defense and instinct in a way few players ever have. This ticket marks the last time the Say Hey Kid appeared in a major league game.
