Why This Ticket Matters

On April 14, 1943, the Yankees, Dodgers and Giants gathered at Yankee Stadium for a special doubleheader benefiting the Civilian Defense Volunteer Office.

Brooklyn defeated the Yankees 6–1 in the first game, then beat the Giants 1–0 in the second to claim the unofficial championship of New York. The event drew 35,301 spectators.

This ticket connects all three of New York’s wartime major-league clubs with the city’s civilian-defense effort, making it both a baseball artifact and a document of the American home front.
